kAHO

overview

Kaho is a first-person puzzle-based game where players must find their ancestor’s heirloom in an ancient Japanese forest filled with ancient spirits. This project was created between a team of 3 developers part-time over a two and a half-month period.

Players use their spirit orb to drag spirit energy to different lanterns in levels. Once all lanterns are lit they’ll complete the level, sometimes there may be obstacles preventing you from completing it such as enemies and locked areas.

CONCEPT ART DESIGNS

EVIL Spirit

Good Spirit

Kitsune Spirit

During the production of Kaho I developed character design concepts, prop and vfx visualisers to attain the the game’s visual art style of the dark contrast of a realistic forest to light spirit colours of cyan, blue and red & purple. This colour scheme plays an important role in the dichotomy between evil and good spirits.

LEVEL 2 Gravestones

key model

I 3D Modelled and textured some assets during the production of Kaho, including; Enemy Spirit, Happy Spirit, Key, Cage, Gravestones & Boat. This was my first time character modelling so it was challenging modelling curves as I was use to building environments and props.

For the first-time I learned Unity VFX & Shaders to learn how to create the glowy effect off the ancestor spirit and the orb being turned on. This was challenging but I was happy with the end result.
